Mindfulness/meditation to be taught in all Primary Schools
In today's society with so many people suffering from anxiety/mental health problems, families are stressed which affects the lives of children, costs to health budget will be a huge problem in the future. A lot of people have never been given the skills to have time out from their anxieties/pressures. Quite a few schools around the world have trialled teaching children mindfulness/meditation and have had amazing success with regards to behaviour, attitudes to learning, creativity, etc. Meditation is starting to be taught in NZ prisons with initial promising results so why not start at the very beginning and give all NZ children this valuable skill for daily life. It doesn't matter what religion, culture or background you are, it is a valuable skill for coping with the stresses/pressures of society at present. Our No 8 wire thinking may increase which would benefit all of NZ and the world in the future.

Alan Barraclough commented 2016-11-26 17:17:15 +1300The calendar for kids is just too full already.. with everyones pet idea most important to indoctrinate the young early. Lets focus on learning core skills through play at primary. Theyve already added (environment , safety, health at most schools).. which is current teaching theory.. and which works. Lets not have stuff that primary kids barely have a chance to understand.. talking about the way we think and anxiety is high school stuff.. if we want kids to relax , let them play and learn through play. Asking a primary kid to sit still for no reason is not something they have a chance of understanding.
