Lacking clarity and boldness. Stop foreign ownership!
I feel that this policy isn't clear or bold enough, it might have been better to look at stopping non-citizens or overseas investors from owning properties in New Zealand?
Do you like this suggestion?

James Turnbull commented 2016-12-12 17:07:37 +1300We could easily make house purchases available to citizens of foreign nations who allowed NZ citizens to purchase in their countries … surely, reciprocal arrangements are fairer than one sided in every situation?
IF can we but in Country XYZ = NO then can persons from Country XYZ buy here ought also to be NO
Not exactly complex is it ?
And it would put an end to Ozzie owned / led real estate businesses flogging our homes overseas ! -

Jamie Brahm commented 2016-12-08 17:24:51 +1300That said, it doesn’t address fully the housing crisis, nor taxation fairness. But its still something that should be a part of the solution.

Jamie Brahm commented 2016-12-08 17:23:47 +1300Yes, I think every party should support this. The economics of it is simple – china gives interest free loans. That ruins the economics of housing prices, no matter how you try to fix the system. I believe NZ first, and the greens both have this as policies (no foreign investing), and probably so should these guys. (Well everyone actually). Allowing interest free loans into your economy, for something as vital as housing, is downright stupid.

Tim O’Donnell commented 2016-12-08 06:35:07 +1300Oliver, Just because it doesn’t solve the complete problem in one go doesn’t make it a bad idea. It’s a great idea that needs other ideas to complete the solution. That’s very limited thinking
