Penalising responsible drinkers is not the answer to binge drinking culture

Many western countries such as France where I live, have far cheaper alcohol, and are far more relaxed about age - No-one gets asked for ID. In these countries, people generally drink more responsibly, there is not the same kind of binge drinking culture, and getting smashed is not something to boast or brag about at all. Others in this thread have suggested change in culture, through education, and I completely agree with that approach. Penalising responsible drinkers is not the solution.

Economic disparity is a part of our binge drinking problem. Here are two examples

1.You are in a cycle of chastising yourself for blowing all your dole/meagre income on booze/smokes within days of it coming in, then struggling the rest rest and hating your lot and then repeat to escape.

2.You have heaps and want to show it off by buying as many of the prettiest girls as many drinks/drugs as they (or you) can (or can’t) handle in expensive bars and clubs.
