Develop policy based on housing prices needing to drop
Right now the only response to the crisis from the major parties seems to be thinking slowing down would be a good idea. We are long past the point where a slowdown is adequate and significant devaluation is needed. This will require a multipronged approach as the housing crisis is anything but simple and the finger cannot be pointed at just immigrants, just residential investors or just Auckland. Geoff Simmons wrote an excellent article on this not long ago and support for effective policies to be enacted will hopefully be a cornerstone of policy.

Jonathan Swadling commented 2016-11-25 13:37:33 +1300Phillip the real difficulty is housing affordability – by international measures New Zealand housing is unaffordable simply because housing price rises have vastly outstripped increases in income. Yes, we are sure this is not a catch up.

I read that property prices have risen by 10% per year since 1066… are we sure this is not catch up rather than a crisis…. crisis seems to be a media / labour party term -
