Firearms licencing

Firearms licencing

It's more of a tidy up action but with computers and the Internet there's no reason that individual guns shouldn't be licenced. Firearms owners should be licenced and so should the firearms. Firearms should be then be registered to their owners. It used to be that the guns were tracked. It brings them back in line with cars (cars ownership is tracked and drivers are licenced). NZ has good gun laws and a society that is relatively safe from gun violence as a result. Let's keep it that way.

Evidence from overseas shows licensing individual firearms is costly, inconvenient and doesn’t stop the problem with criminals and guns. What is TOP’s view in general on firearms ownership and does it have any other plans to change the way legally held firearms are used and owned?
By the way, it is not a crime to own a car that isn’t registered.
