Legalisation of cannabis
Cannabis is less harmful than alcohol and many other drugs, and its users should not be treated like criminals. Police resources are wasted on prohibiting cannabis when it instead can be legalised and taxed for the benefit of society.

Jerry Cerveny commented 2016-11-25 16:28:27 +1300Legalizing recreational Cannabis would need to be strictly regulated. But in addition creating a Medicinal Cannabis industry as it is happening in many EU countries and the USA is a must. Medicinal hemp as a cure for many ailments is real and includes conditions from Cancer to Seizures Alzheimer’s and everything in-between. The hemp plant is unbelievably versatile and on a per hector land usage can produce 5x more paper then trees with a yearly harvest compared to every 15-20 years. Henry Ford even made and fuelled cars made from Hemp see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54vD_cPCQM8&list=PLV3JXJJrxll3T-8CgdDyHR_0qXv9q6yDr
All plastics can be replaced with hemp and decompose naturally. -

Jonathan Swadling commented 2016-11-25 13:07:08 +1300Non user here and believe it is long past time cannabis was legalised. Less health/social harm is caused by cannabis than alcohol or tobacco and resources sunk into policing it could be far better spent elsewhere. Medical marijuana doesn’t cure cancer, but it is an effective analgesic and further research is merited on other uses. Time for New Zealand to grow up – it has been legalised in a number of places and civilisation didn’t end.

Jakkii Goody commented 2016-11-25 12:53:12 +1300Its more than this even. Medical marijuana and marijuana products are a huge industry. It sounds ridiculous to even imagine, but what if people we currently considered “losers” could have the opportunity to really contribute through their vast experience with growing and using this herb. There are so many industries who can benefit from legalizing marijuana. there is huge export potential. I’d like to see medical marijuana being used to treat our Meth addicts who were wronged by the synthetic marijuana fiasco and really use it to heal our nations people and also heal our over forested land, provide eco friendly products and add to our export portfolio.
