duncan cairncross commented 2016-11-27 16:35:47 +1300We don’t need more prisons – we need to do what Norway does and spend a LOT more ensuring that we reduce recidivism – its a lot cheaper in the long term

Richard Wyles commented 2016-11-27 03:14:45 +1300But along with targeting the root causes. Building more and more prisons doesn’t tackle the problem, exacerbates it more likely. NZ has one of the highest incarceration rates amongst OECD countries.

Graeme Kiyoto-Ward commented 2016-11-26 11:26:17 +1300100% agree. The successful outcomes that society wants (lowest recidivism rate over the long term) is directly opposed to the short term profit motive of private prison operators. Essentially private prisons are for those governments that do not care about anything other than the lowest cost to store people. Overall, there’s a law and order theme and I believe that the overarching topic of law and order should be in the top 7.
