We need migrants to fill gabs in the workforce, at least until we can train enough of our own citizens to correct the situation. However we should be more selective of these people so we can reduce the numbers coming into the country and get the best of the best. Most of us I believe recognise we want/need high skilled &/or useful contributors to our society. We also need to help these people to assimilate into their local community through community based programmes & language assistance. To become citizens there would have to be a test after a recommended period to ensure they were actually contributing & willing/trying to assimilate into the community. As long as they're decent people who are contributing & willing to be a part of the community it shouldn't matter where they come from. Should a person that has moved here be convicted of anything more than a minor crime or if they are repeat offenders they should be deported & citizenship revoked. We also can't allow automatic entry for relatives of these new citizens. I'm not saying they shouldn't get citizenship but it should be reviewed on it's own merits. Can they contribute enough to have the rights of citizenship?
