Stop the commercial sale of Public fresh water or charge per litre to the Government
Local authorities have abused the rights of New Zealanders by allowing companies both foreign & domestic to harvest NZ fresh water for personal gain with little or no return to the local NZ community. If it is allowed to continue it should be regulated & there should be a fair charge for each litre taken.

Jane Pinder commented 2016-12-03 06:50:48 +1300Our water is a national resource. If minerals were discovered and extraction rights granted to a company by local council or government, they would then be paying royalties to us. It should be the same with water. I think it is galling that after the water contamination crisis in Hawkes Bay, local people then ended up having to buy (back) the water they needed from a foreign company in their locale that had been granted the right to extract and ship local water overseas virtually for free by their own council!

Tim O’Donnell commented 2016-11-28 23:21:20 +1300Do who benefit? The local councils? My understanding is it’s a small consent fee (usually for administration cost) for a certain amount over a given time. Here’s an example from 2015 http://www.nzherald.co.nz/hawkes-bay-today/news/article.cfm?c_id=1503462&objectid=11454222
